As the name suggests this course is designed to equip staff to supervise their client/patient’s use of cardiovascular equipment in the gym. As well as all course materials, LifeDock can also provide an ongoing support system after completion of training. This course is a Level 2 and fully accredited through Northern Ireland Open College Network.
Why In The Gym
Most of us are aware of the benefits of physical activity; a stronger heart, lungs, muscles and bones and high blood pressure, high cholesterol can also be reduced and the effects of Type 2 diabetes can also be reduced. There is also growing evidence that physical activity is also hugely important for maintaining and improving mental health. There are many ways to take part in physical activity; walking, swimming, dancing, playing sport and attending the gym. This course is designed to supervise the use of cardiovascular Gym equipment.
When you complete this training you will understand the benefits of cardiovascular training ‘In The Gym’ and will be fully equipped to supervise clients/patient’s safe and effective use of CV machines.
Who is it for?
This course is designed for staff that work in a facility where patients have access to cardiovascular exercise equipment and need supervision using it. No prior knowledge is required to attend this training.
The duration of the training is 10 hours including a simple assessment. You will be assessed using 3 different machines and answering questions in a small workbook.
By completion of the training you will be able to:
- Instruct patients on the safe use of CV machines
- Explain the area(s) of the body being used by each machine
- Explain how hard they should work
- Monitor the intensity
- Understand the BORG scale
- Be able to screen patients
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of health and safety
- Identify and if possible overcome barriers to physical activity
